The Silver Chicken - Pilots: Maurizio COSTA

Maurizio COSTA Maurizio Costa was born in Milan on March 12th, 1957. Attracted to airplanes since childhood, he became a professional pilot almost by chance, when an Alitalia "head hunter" visited his class at ground school in Bresso inviting him (and others) to "enroll".

No easier said than done. Maurizio rapidly and successfully advanced in his career at Alitalia, to what he is today Senior Captain on B767.

Nevertheless, being an airline pilot is often not enough to fulfill the eagerness and passion of flying: thus Maurizio continued to fly, between airline duties, on light planes, especially aerobatics: Zlin 526, CAP-10, CAP-20 etc.

In 1992 he bought a Pitts S2B biplane in the USA and brought it back to Italy where it was registered as I-BBMM. Flying this aircraft Costa started his real career as a sport aerobatics pilot: Intermediate Champion 1993, moved to Advanced and, after stretching the Pitts' capabilities to extremes and arriving first several times, took the chance offered by his friend Dallan to co-own the Silver Chicken.

His debut in Advanced category was quite good, coming in second just behind the expert Angelo SONVICO. Moving to Unlimited, he qualifies immediately for the National Team and competes in the World Air Games in Turkey, 1997.

Constantly improving, he scores several second places in the Italian Championship behind his friend-rival Sergio Dallan until winning Bronze Medal in the team with Sergio and Ruggero Rossini at the Europeans in 1999.

Handing over his co-ownership of the Silver Chicken to Luca SALVADORI, Maurizio bought a brand-new CAP-232 flying which, in his debut year 2002, finally won the unlimited category at the Italian Nationals.
